On Friday evening, the rescheduled Gents Shotgun Foursomes took place at the club with the competition reduced to sixteen holes, enabling everyone to complete the course before darkness descended. First place on Friday went to the pairing of Peter Dallat and Rory Gallagher with a nett 57, Derek Bell and Gerry Norwood were second with a nett 58.5 and Ciaran McIlroy and Harry Sheehan finished in third place with 59.5 nett. The club would like to express it’s thanks to Colum Egan, Bushmills Distillery for sponsoring the competition prizes.
The July Monthly Medal was played at Ballycastle on Sunday with the club’s Honorary Secretary David Douglas top scoring with a fabulous nett 62. Gerry Norwood took third place also with a nett 63, Lawrence McQuillan was fourth on nett 65 and Rory Gallagher won the gross prize with a 71, just ahead of Ciaran Mort courtesy of a superb three under par back nine. Mel Carleton ensured it was a lucrative weekend for the Ballymoney golfer as he grabbed a two at the par three third and then a hole in one at the tenth!
Eamon Dornan’s second place finish in Sunday’s Medal has catapulted him into the lead in the Golfer of the Year competition with six events to play. Eamon has amassed a total of 69 points so far, three points clear of Liam McGonigle in second with Neil McMaster in third place on 63 points. Rory McCormick holds a thirteen point lead in the Winchester Bowl gross competition ahead of Neil McMaster in second with Owen Kennedy, Patrick Dallat, Mark McCormick and Michael Dallat also featuring strongly.
The next qualifying event for Golfer of the Year and Winchester Bowl points is the Rathlin Cup on Saturday 31st July. On Sunday 1st August, a ladies and gents team charity competition is held at the club to raise funds for Good Morning Ballycastle. Teams of three or four can participate with the best three stableford scores at each hole to count.
The timesheets for the Shangarry Cup and Plate go online at 4pm on Thursday 29th July with the competition itself taking place on Saturday 7th August.
